The Warm Front Scheme provides a package of insulation and heating improvements up to the value of £3,500 (or £6,000 if oil central heating is recommended). It is a Government-funded initiative and the scheme is managed by eaga. Warm Front grants are for people who are on certain benefits and own their home or rent it from a private landlord. Measures include loft insulation, draught-proofing, cavity wall insulation, gas room heaters or electric storage heaters. www.warmfront.co.uk ELDERLY ACCOMMODATION COUNSEL EAC offers elderly care advice on sheltered housing, retirement housing, care homes, or care services for elderly people, making sure that all options have been considered. www.housingcare.org SHELTERED ACCOMMODATION AND SOCIAL HOUSING Local authorities hold a Housing Register, a list of the people who have applied and qualify to be allocated housing in the area. All allocations by the local authority and nominations to registered social landlords are made from these lists. Points are given depending on circumstances - those with the most housing need, with the highest number of points, will be considered for accommodation first. Sheltered Housing usually means a self contained flat which shares some communal facilities (e.g. lounge, laundry, guest room) with other flats, and has a warden/manager who checks on the welfare of residents and ensures help is at hand in an emergency. Sheltered accommodation is provided by Local Authorities, Housing Associations and by private companies and is available to rent or buy. Your local Housing Department will have available a list of sheltered housing for rent. This page was last updated 20/04/2012 |
