Wide range of information available including free AA Guide for Disabled Travellers. www.theaa.com ADAPTED VEHICLE HIRE Specialist rental of adapted car hire and adapted van hire for disabled drivers in the UK including wheelchair accessible vans and people carriers with wheelchair access. www.avhltd.com ADUR COMMUNITY TRANSPORT Can offer door to door and group journeys such as outings, shopping trips etc. for people unable to use public transport Mon – Fri. Areas covered are Shoreham-by-Sea, Lancing, Sompting, Southwick, Worthing and West Hove. ARUN CARE Has a minibus available which can be used by other community organisations. Access to the minibus is via the Arun Co-ordinated Community Transport Scheme at The Dairy. ARUN CO-ORDINATED COMMUNITY TRANSPORT Has several wheelchair accessible minibuses available, for use by local groups. All services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, subject to availability. There is also a Social Car Scheme that will undertake journeys to hospital, dentists, doctors or shopping etc, depending on the resources available. A wheelchair accessible transport service which can accommodate one wheelchair user and three other people. BLUE BADGE SCHEME People who are disabled can apply for this badge to use whilst they are the driver or passenger of a vehicle. It allows free parking in the majority of the UK & Europe. A small fee is payable and 2 copies of a recent photo are required. The Blue Badge is given on medical assessment provided by your GP. BRITISH RED CROSS TRANSPORT SERVICE Runs transport service for medical appointments for people with disabilities or who are unable to use public transport. Uses volunteer’s cars only. www.redcross.org.uk CAR TAX EXEMPTION A person may be eligible for Car Tax Exemption if he/she is in receipt of the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, or War Pensioners Mobility Supplement, or has an invalid carriage. www.dvla.gov.uk COMMUNITY MINIBUS ASSOCIATION PULBOROUGH Regular shopping trips from Pulborough, West Chiltington, Bury & Coldwaltham going to Chichester, Horsham and Worthing. COMMUNITY MINIBUS ASSOCIATION – STEYNING AREA For residents of Ashington, Ashurst, Bramber, Beeding, Steyning and Washington who are not able to use, or have no access to, public transport. Also available for youth and community groups. Has one 12 seater minibus. Operates regular shopping trips and outings. COMMUNITY MINIBUS ASSOCIATION – STORRINGTON, THAKEHAM, SULLINGTON Three 10 seater minibuses operate on regular shopping trips (Mon-Fri except Weds), and trips to places of interest on some Weds in the summer months. On Tuesdays runs a trip to Worthing and Fridays to Chichester, Shoreham Holmbush Centre and Horsham. Mondays are a shopping trip to Pulborough. Passengers must be without their own transport and self supporting away from the minibus. COMMUNITY TRANSPORT - PULBOROUGH Transport operated by volunteers using their own cars to take the elderly residents of Pulborough and surrounding villages to essential appointments (eg doctor, hospital, dentist). Covers Pulborough and surrounding villages. New volunteer drivers always welcome. CONCESSIONARY TRAVEL For information about concessionary travel schemes for people over 60 or disabled, apply to your local council. DAY CENTRES Day Centres can provide transport for people attending the centre. They may also hire out their transport when it is not in use. Contact the appropriate Day Centre for further information. DIAL A RIDE Door to door service for people with either a permanent or temporary disability of any kind and who are unable to use ordinary buses. The service can be used for journeys to work, college, shopping or other social activities, but not hospital appointments. A carer or friend can travel at the same time. FRIENDS OF FERRING Volunteers offer assistance with local shopping, advice, transport, home visits, correspondence, hospital visits, dentist, hospital and chiropodist. GUILD CARE TRANSPORT SERVICE Has several accessible vehicles, all with lifts or ramps, all being suitable for fixed wheelchairs. Available for hire by local organisations and individuals, trained drivers available. www.guildcare.org HEALTH CENTRE LINK – HENFIELD Provides transport to Henfield Health Centre and local hospitals. Volunteer drivers welcome. HORSHAM AREA COMMUNITY CAR SCHEME (HACCS) Offers affordable transport to people who are unable to use public transport for reasons of disability or frailty. Transport available Mon - Fri 8.30am - 5.30pm depending on driver availability. Covers a much wider area than the Dial-A-Ride scheme including out of county trips. Provides transport for any type of journey eg hospital trips, holidays etc. LITTLEHAMPTON AMBULANCE CAR SERVICE Provides a car service to and from hospital or clinical appointments using volunteer drivers. Can transport some people with disabilities except those who require lifting. Can go out of county. MOTABILITY Motability is a registered charity which enables disabled people to use the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance or War Pensioners Mobility Supplement to lease or buy a car or buy a powered wheelchair or scooter. Also offers financial assistance if customers would be otherwise unable to afford the mobility solution they need. STEYNING AND DISTRICT GOOD NEIGHBOURS ASSOCIATION A voluntary association covering Steyning and District with the purpose of performing neighbourly tasks of all kinds for the community. Has volunteers’ cars able to accommodate folding wheelchairs on request. Will try to provide transport to take people to the health centre, hospital, dentist or medical appointments within West Sussex. Also shopping trips to the village and befriending.
ST JOHN AMBULANCE SERVICE - SUSSEX Contact for all St John Ambulance
services in Sussex. St John Ambulance branches provide a variety of community
services. (Different branches offer different services.) Services include:
accessible transport to medical appointments; visiting nursing homes, hospitals
or surgeries, first aid cover and first aid training, medical loan service for
equipment such as commodes and wheelchairs, transport for people with
disabilities needing respite care or holidays.

SOUTHEAST COAST AMBULANCE SERVICE (SUSSEX)Runs the Ambulance Car Service which supplements the ambulance service, to provide transport for people to attend hospitals and clinics for outpatient appointments. Referrals must be made via your GP. TRANSPORT CO-ORDINATION GROUP-WEST SUSSEX Based at West Sussex County Council, the Transport Co-ordination Group provides advice and support to community groups to begin and operate transport schemes. Also includes information on a range of other transport services, including bus, rail and wheelchair accessible taxis. WRVS CARS & COMPANIONS IN ADUR The transport service is for people resident in Adur and Worthing areas who are unable to use public transport. Available for hospital/doctors appointments, lunch clubs, visits, shopping trips etc. Volunteer drivers using their own cars will transport people and give them up to 90 minutes at their destination. Travel vouchers accepted. For bookings telephone 9.30am-12.30pm Monday- Friday (at least two days notice required). This is not a medical scheme but will take people to doctor or hospital and on social outings. Charge by mileage. A registration fee is required on an annual basis, currently £12 per annum.
